New Mexico Food Charter

New Mexico Food Charter

The New Mexico Food Charter emerged out of a comprehensive strategic planning process by the NM Food & Agriculture Policy Council. The evolution the Charter started with developing a Theory of Change which identified a broad range of influences and asked questions about how we can best support food production and distribution in New Mexico to be nutritious, culturally appropriate, accessible and which draws on our local farming and ranching economy.

The Theory of Change process included input from over 50 Policy Council members and supporters, and resulted in the identification of the major factors that are influencing New Mexico’s food and agriculture systems today and into the future. The process of developing a Theory of Change also identified the desired changes or impacts to be achieved through the Policy Council’s policy work and the measurable indicators of that change.

Out of this initial work with the Theory of Change and the Strategic Plan, the Food Charter emerged to tell the story of where we are and where we are heading. Click to view the New Mexico Food Charter.
